Deepen your creativity by learning to express yourself simultaneously in written and visual form. This innovative new course harnesses the short form of flash writing in combination with sketching or acrylic painting. In our digital world, we are flooded with words and images all day long, challenging our capacity to process, think, feel and express ourselves fully. This “crossed genres” course invites you to access your stories, experiences, thoughts and feelings through flash writing exercises and then slow down to transform your words into visual art. Through accessible, immersive sketching or painting exercises, you will convert your writing into a work of art. Reveal, obscure or illuminate words and thoughts as you see fit. Participants are welcome to write in any language. No prior writing or artistic experience is necessary. To participate, all you need is something to express. With special guest Elizabeth White-Olsen, former director of Writespace.

Note: Studio art supply lists are shared two weeks prior to each course start date. Please contact cpcoord@rice.edu with questions.
