Create art rooted in nature yet freed from the bounds of reality in this Organic Abstraction workshop. Abstract art can be visually and emotionally charged, inviting experimentation with line, form, texture, composition, color and more. Whether you are drawn to lyrical or geometric shapes, vast landscapes or intimate, microscopic details, forge your personal interpretations of the natural world. We take inspiration from such artists as Ruth Asawa, Helen Frankenthaler, Agnes Martin, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Frank Stella, Ellsworth Kelly, Joseph Albers, Frantisek Kupka, Morris Louis, Sol LeWitt, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian and more. This multimedia workshop is open to artists at all levels working in acrylic, watercolor, drawing, collage, fabric and other media. Includes a field trip to the Menil Drawing Institute for the exhibit “Ruth Asawa Through Line.”
