Take an eclectic journey through 500 years of Texas history in the shoes of little-known people and through forgotten events that have shaped our modern state. Mike Vance, Texas author and filmmaker, is your guide. Traveling by region, we make pit stops that illuminate Texas politics, labor, arts, literature, agriculture, oil, ranching, sports and civil rights. There are heartrending struggles for survival and inspiring triumphs of will. From Olympic athletes and aviation pioneers to armed uprisings, from the strains of early Texas blues, Tejano music, jazz and cowboy songs to the rise of union labor to small-town high school football, these stories will captivate Texans new and old. Along the way, we address some common Texas myths and reveal some largely obscured truths from our rich Lone Star history. You may well come away with tantalizing road-trip ideas of your own. Join us to experience Texas as never before!
