Rice University and community experts on mindfulness, physical and emotional well-being across the life span, the restorative power of nature, community service, and everyday play, creativity and joy share their unique perspectives on what it takes to thrive. Led by well-being specialist Dr. Elizabeth Slator, this supportive course taps into your deep wisdom about what you need to live fully and well. This holistic series includes presentations, facilitated conversations with guest experts, class discussions, in-class activities, a sunset walk on Rice’s campus and optional practices to try at home. Informed by current research, the course is designed to spark thoughtful dialogue and personally meaningful insights. Join us to craft a “whole, big life” infused with greater intention, peace, joy and well-being.

Course Details

Lead Instructor
Elizabeth Slator, Ph.D., has been teaching and consulting in the areas of health, human performance and behavior change for nearly two decades. At Rice University, she teaches classes on mindfulness, performance psychology and leadership development. Dr. Slator also serves as a sport psychology consultant for the Rice athletics department, creates recreation and wellness programs for the Rice campus, and is a mindfulness-based health and wellness coach for private clients. She holds a B.S. and M.Ed. from Auburn University, and Ph.D. from The University of Tennessee. In addition to her formal education, she is an ICF Associate Certified Coach, a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher and an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer. In all aspects of her work, Dr. Slator supports individuals to meet their lives with authenticity, equanimity and a lightness of spirit.
