On the eve of the 2022 midterm elections, Rice University faculty and other scholars assess the national, state and local outlook. These elections are among the most consequential in recent history, as the United States contends with the impact of the pandemic, urgent demands for social justice and equity, challenges to democracy and other crises. We examine key races and issues such as the battle over voting rights and the impact of demographic shifts on the electorate. The course also explores the effects of new post-2020 election laws in Texas and across the nation. The class culminates in a post-election faculty panel analyzing races, results and repercussions of the 2022 midterm elections.
