Join artist Laura Spector for a virtual painting “safari,” celebrating the vast diversity of animal life. Many of us are feeling a deeper kinship with animals lately, whether you are spending time at home communing with your pets, noticing the creatures on your neighborhood walks, or admiring wildlife on a nearby hike or a long-awaited trip. In this virtual course, the instructor guides you through a process of painting animals from photographs, sharing lessons from her study of master classical painters and other artists. Strengthen your painting skills while learning to portray the essence of animals—from rescue pups, neighborhood squirrels and Houston’s ubiquitous lizards to elephants, whales, zebras and more. You will complete two paintings during this class of the animals of your choice. This course accommodates acrylic, oil and gouache painters and is designed for students who have taken an introductory painting course or who have basic familiarity with color theory as well as paint mixing and application.
