Guided by the long-held belief that "teachers who teach writing should write," this monthly gathering of writing teachers, from grades K-12, encourages participants to practice and improve their writing skills. Each session will feature a fellow teacher as a presenter, using the arts as a springboard for further discussion and writing inspiration.

Writing and the Arts (WATA) participants not only sharpen their own writing skills but also deepen their understanding of the writing process, enabling them to better guide students at all levels of writing proficiency.

Participating in WATA can help teachers to:

  • Articulate complex concepts
  • Create engaging instructional materials
  • Communicate more effectively with parents and colleagues
  • Foster empathy for the challenges students face
  • Develop and share a deeper appreciation for the arts
  • Build and nurture relationships with fellow writing teachers

Ultimately, by investing in their own writing skills through WATA, teachers can create a positive ripple effect in the classroom, promoting a culture of literacy, critical thinking and effective communication among their students.
