This three day institute, designed to meet the unique needs of teachers working with our youngest writers, will focus on writing development and invented spelling, the teacher’s role in facilitating children’s writing, and ideas for promoting writing across genres. Participating teachers will discover techniques that are meaningful to emergent writers and develop expertise in evaluating a variety of strategies for teaching writing in the early childhood classroom. Most importantly, prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade teachers will learn how to develop children’s voices as writers while teaching skills in meaningful contexts.
