Join Rice University’s School Literacy and Culture for our 20th annual Early Literacy Summit, “Early Childhood Education: Are We Asking the Right Questions?” During this one-day gathering, early childhood literacy professionals will be challenged to “ask the right questions” as we explore ways to foster high-quality teacher/child interaction and create play-based classroom environments that stimulate higher-order thinking and foster socio-emotional development in children.
Participants will have the opportunity to select and attend multiple breakout sessions, including a feature session by Patsy Cooper, author of When Stories Come to School and The Classrooms All Young Children Need, as well as sessions led by School Literacy and Culture staff, mentors and guests. Interactive sessions will explore activities and questioning techniques that build trusting classroom relationships and encourage children to think critically and creatively. Topics for this year’s sessions include incorporating literacy across the curriculum and creating intentional art, block, sensory, STEM, math and dramatic play learning centers.
Registered participants should have received an email with logistics for the day. If you did not receive an email, please access it by clicking below.PARTICIPANT EMAIL
