Centering on What Matters: Supporting Teachers in Times of Change

This full-day conference for teachers of two-year-olds to first grade features more than twenty workshops designed specifically for early childhood classrooms. Early childhood specialists throughout the greater Houston community will join mentors and staff from Rice University’s School Literacy and Culture (SLC) program in presenting breakout sessions that range from supporting children’s socio-emotional development through dramatic play and storytelling to promoting learning through quality children’s literature, phonological awareness, name curriculum and blocks and sensory play. As always, the conference will also feature content designed specifically for this Summit. Some of these new sessions will address the statewide emphasis on children’s mental health, support teachers as they shift from half-day to full-day prekindergarten schedules, and take a deeper dive into the role of executive functioning. Check back in September to see the full conference schedule!
