Writing is as much about risk as it is about technique. Experience what it means to start writing with an experienced fiction and nonfiction writer as your guide. Timed prompts are the engine of the class. Because the writing is timed, you practice outrunning your inner critic. Because the writing isn’t critiqued, you learn to find safety in expressing yourself in the moment. Because some writing is shared, you experience the creativity of others, recognize your own, and absorb unspoken details about craft through listening to another and hearing your own work spoken aloud. This class allows you to explore in safety all the small joys and satisfaction a writing practice can bring. Tips to trigger creativity and pointers on craft are included. If you dream of writing, this class will introduce you to your inner writer in a new way and help you create a viable writing practice.

Note: This course focuses on process writing and does not include critiques or a review of creative writing genres. Please see The Craft of Fiction Writing if you are seeking a critique or genre course.
