The AP Preparedness Summer Workshops are designed to help teachers increase the rigor of content so students develop the strong foundation necessary for success in secondary advanced academics and post-secondary courses.
Want to teach at a higher level and engage your students more? Come join us (Sheila Guillory for two days and Michelle Talcott for two days) for four days of action-filled hands-on activities. We will be focusing on inquiry-based activities that address the middle school sixth and seventh grades’ supporting standards and eighth-grade STAAR readiness and supporting TEKS. Topics/ activities covered will be suitable for all middle school teachers and are designed to enrich student learning and participation.
Activities will include: Process skills, paint chips and aliens for atoms, element puzzles, Chinese yo-yo for calculating speed, crazy traits for genetics and extinction, worm stimulus, “Magic School Bus” body system stations, plate tectonics to build a house, circuit quiz boards and electromagnets for energy transfer.

Lead Consultant Biographies:
Sheila Guillory graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in biology and a minor in education. Ms. Guillory is a passionate science teacher with 24 years of teaching experience in fifth- through eighth-grade science. She is currently a teacher, an instructional coach and a science department leader for eighth-grade science in Jasper ISD. Ms. Guillory enjoys using innovative strategies to promote active learning through hands-on activities. Additionally, she is passionate about science and is committed to maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field and on the latest curriculum, with resources available for the academic success of her students.
Michelle Talcott has a BS and MS in geology from Stephen F. Austin State University and is a licensed professional geoscientist in Texas. Before teaching, she worked 20 years in the environmental consulting industry and began her career running chemical analysis on water, wastewater and soil in a testing laboratory. Michelle is now in her seventh year of teaching. Previously, she taught fifth-grade science for five years, and now she teaches seventh- and eighth-grade science at Jasper ISD.
