The AP Preparedness Summer Workshops are designed to help teachers increase the rigor of content so students develop the strong foundation necessary for success in secondary advanced academics and post-secondary courses.

The course is designed to provide participants with activities to help them better prepare their students for the challenges of upper-level AP courses. The emphasis will be on intro-level college material rather than local or state evaluations. Although many of the activities apply to both the AP Literature and the AP Language courses, the differences will also be examined.

Topics:

Participants will examine strategies that support the AP English Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition courses. Those strategies include closing reading, annotation, rhetorical analysis, argumentation and various writing tasks including analytical writing and synthesis writing. A wide range of cross-discipline reading samples will be explored to develop a deeper understanding of content and promote better test performance. Participants will leave with activities, lessons on prose and poetry, graphic organizers, an examination of digital classroom possibilities and a renewed enthusiasm for integrating all of it into their own curriculum.

What participants should bring:

  • A sample of a successful in-class activity
  • Post-it notes
  • Highlighters
  • A willing and open attitude
