CLSOCPS003 - Lifelong Civic Leadership Forum: Engaging Across Difference
“The fracturing of community in America... threatens our fundamental well-being. Do we continue with the status quo, marked by pain, disconnection, and division? Or do we... recognize community as the irreplaceable foundation for our well-being?”
--Dr. Vivek Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General
Thriving communities and societies depend on our ability to find common ground. But how do we connect with people whose perspectives and experiences appear to differ from our own? And how do we care for ourselves and our loved ones if others don’t seem to respect or protect our values or our humanity? Learning to engage across difference is more urgent than ever, as we navigate an era of deep divisions and growing challenges to equity. This free community forum shares research, best practices, and insights from scholars and practitioners on understanding and connecting across difference. Following a keynote talk, we’ll work in small, facilitated groups to practice skills and share insights that may deepen understanding and connection. We’ll end by networking with fellow Houstonians and campus and community groups committed to helping our democracy and community thrive. Register and learn more.
