CLSOCPS002 - Lifelong Civic Leadership Forum: Putting People Back in Democracy

Join Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, the Center for Civic Leadership and community organizations for this free, nonpartisan event that puts people back into democracy and puts democracy in action. Course Details
Verónica L. Reyna, Ph.D., is an associate director for the Center for Civic Leadership, overseeing Houston-based civic projects. She also leads the RiceVotes Collective. Previously, she was the founder and director of the Center for Civic Engagement and associate chair of the Department of Government at Houston Community College, where she taught national, state and Latino politics courses. Dr. Reyna earned her B.A. in political science and women’s studies from Northwestern University and her doctorate from the University of Michigan in political science. Her scholarship and publications are in the areas of Latino and gender politics, civic engagement and community-engaged research. Dr. Reyna’s textbook, “Latino Politics: Power, Intersectionality, and the Future of American Democracy,” was published in 2023 by Cengage.
Danika M. Brown, Ph.D., is the executive director of the Center for Civic Leadership. Previously, she served as the director for Engaged Scholarship and Learning and an associate professor of English at the University of Texas–Pan American (now UTRGV). Dr. Brown earned her M.A. in English literature from Arizona State University and Ph.D. in English (rhetoric and composition) from the University of Arizona. Her scholarship is in the area of critical pedagogy, rhetoric and popular culture and university-community partnerships.
