CLARTPH322 - Creative iPhone Photography
Experiment with creative approaches to iPhone® photography in this interactive workshop and critique course. Take your photography to the next level with creative techniques, editing and processing. With guidance from co-instructors Tom Flaherty and Terri Golas, learn to create impressionist, abstract, semi-abstract and digitally composited images using iPhone apps. We also study the work of artists using the iPhone in innovative ways, sharing inspiration, instruction and ideas for making creative abstract photographs. Each participant will receive feedback from the instructors and fellow classmates during most of the class sessions with review and discussion of student images. This course includes new apps and new assignments and is appropriate for first-time students familiar with the basics of taking iPhone photographs and returning students who have previously completed the course. Embrace the creative possibilities of your iPhone!

Course Details
Tom Flaherty, BBA, is a published photographer whose work has been exhibited at the Silos at Sawyer Yards, Rice University and the Women’s Institute. He is a business consultant and past board president of the Houston Center for Photography. Mr. Flaherty holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas A&M University and has been teaching with the Glasscock School since 2014.
Terri Golas, MBA, is a published photographer whose work has been exhibited at Houston Center for Photography, Fotofest, Rice University, Lawndale Art Center and other venues. She is a former instructor in Rice University’s Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership program and a former adjunct professor in the University of Houston’s master’s program in Arts Leadership. Ms. Golas holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Houston and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.

This course will be delivered on campus / in person. Parking and room information will be sent prior to the class start date.
The latest iPhone operating system is required. Participants should be comfortable taking photographs with an iPhone camera. Fee does not include the cost of iPhone apps, which generally range from free to $5 each. Allow for approximately $20. Email cpcoord@rice.edu for more information.
